Honest Honey
Project Brief
Assigned in my spring 2020 packaging class, we were designated a brand and asked to create a packaging system for it, while also working on the branding. The overall goal was to build experience creating design for a packaging system while keeping a specific target market segment in mind.
Solution
From creating new packaging to new products, the brand was completely redone. Taking inspiration from the brand's promise to ethical beekeeping and its consumers' own moral and health standards, a soft, warm, and welcoming design—complete with hand drawn illustrations and text—was implemented.
Honey Jars
For the honey jars, the biggest thing was to hide the perhaps not so appetizing product, while still making it look attractive. This is where the system used for the the brand's packaging was born—from the logo to the type to the illustrations. The idea was for the system was to bring out the idea of Honest Raw Honey's ethical beekeeping in a subtle way while keeping in mind the target audience.
Honeycomb
Where there is honey, there's a honeycomb. That's why it made sense to choose to sell honeycomb for Honest's next product. This time, there was no need to hide anything, in fact, the goal was to show it off. Following the system, a unique illustration pattern and packaging was created for this piece.
Honey Sticks
When thinking about the consumers, who are busy with work and always on the go, a portable and healthy snack made sense. Once again a unique pattern was made, but because it'd be made of the same product as the original honey, the same colors were kept. In addition, a die cuts in the form of hexagons (honey combs) were created to give consumers a peek at the not-so-well known product inside.
Outcomes
1. Create an easily identifiable and memorable system for Honest Raw Honey that will be able to extend into any future merchandise.
2. Create (at least two) new products that were still within the scope of honey products.
3. Emphasize the concept of ethical beekeeping.
4. Find a specific target audience and design a system that appeals to their ethics and lifestyles.
